Reducing Transportation Emissions in British Columbia
The Climate Action and Awareness Fund (CAAF) UBC Project
A five-year interdisciplinary research initiative focused on developing strategies to reduce transportation emissions in urban and rural areas across British Columbia.
This project addresses gaps in current data and modeling for emission reduction policies, considering the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel behavior. Collaboration with stakeholders—including government agencies, transit authorities, Indigenous communities, and the public—is a key priority to ensure findings are both relevant and actionable.
Key Objectives
- Collect Novel Travel Behavior Data
Through comprehensive surveys, the project aims to gather fresh insights into travel patterns. - Develop Land Use and Vehicle Ownership Models
These models will improve understanding of regional transportation dynamics. - Create Advanced Travel Demand Forecasting Models

The team will assess emissions under various policy conditions. - Develop an Interactive Geoportal
An online platform will provide access to data, models, and visualization tools to support decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
