UiTR Lab
UBC integrated Transportation Research (UiTR) Laboratory, formerly known as CeTLUR, is a transportation and land use research facility at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan (UBCO) campus. This centre is led by Dr. Mahmudur Fatmi, a transportation professor at UBCO. This research facility is dedicated to conduct innovative and inter-disciplinary research which ranges from designing surveys to collecting novel travel behavioural data and big data, to using the data to develop state-of-the-art behavioural models and urban system microsimulation tools to investigate the changes in land use and transportation choices.
The findings of this research group assist in making effective transportation and land use policies and infrastructure investment decisions. The UiTR lab collaborates with scholars around the world, as well as has partnerships with the local, provincial and federal government agencies and industries.
ICER
The Institute for Community Engaged Research (ICER) is an academic research institute that unites researchers from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds, including Anthropology, Gender Studies, Indigenous Studies, Economics, Education, Health Studies, Human Geography, Nursing, Social Work and Sociology.
Sharing a commitment to research that supports diversity, equity, and social justice, the Institute facilitates the participation of community members, organizations, students, and academics as co-researchers. ICER is a hub for building relationships, collaboration, and effective knowledge creation and exchange.

OVI Lab
The Okanagan Visualization & Interaction (OVI) Lab is centered on research in human-computer interaction (HCI), specializing in interactions with mobile, wearable, and immersive technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and head-mounted displays (HMDs). By developing innovative visualization and interaction techniques, the lab enhances digital experiences, making technology more intuitive and seamlessly integrated into everyday life. Through interdisciplinary research, the OVI Lab pushes the boundaries of digital interaction, shaping the future of human engagement with augmented, virtual, and mixed reality environments.
iREACH Lab
The iREACH Lab conducts research on the development and application of real-world-based tools to quickly and quantitatively assess the impact of our policy and technology decisions on air pollution and climate outcomes. The knowledge gained is then generalized using techniques such as Land Use Regressions and other data mining tools to support better environment and energy policy planning and reduce exposure risk. Our work involves interdisciplinary teams and collaborations with a range of relevant stakeholders, including colleagues in other departments at UBC (e.g., Liu Institute, IRES), non-profits, and regulatory agencies.

Life Cycle Management Laboratory
Modern societies need decision makers to find sustainable solutions that balance multiple, often conflicting objectives. The Life Cycle Management Laboratory (LCML) employs a life cycle thinking approach to offer innovative solutions for both current and future decision makers.
Established in 2011, the LCML is a research unit at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus. It is the only research facility in Western Canada dedicated to life cycle assessments of the built environment. The laboratory’s resources include over 30 advanced software programs and databases, as well as the necessary hardware to conduct comprehensive life cycle assessments. The LCML’s research efforts are concentrated on life cycle thinking studies pertaining to urban development, energy systems, construction and asset management, water systems, and industrial products and processes. The research team comprises over 25 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The LCML has made notable contributions to the international research community, with researchers publishing over 400 journal articles, 100 conference papers, and 50 technical reports.
The Planetary Healthcare Lab
Bringing together a team of researchers, ranging from doctors and health economists to business experts, to combat the growing environmental impacts of the healthcare industry. From transforming hospital food systems to driving innovation in medical device design. The Planetary Healthcare Lab generates solutions to lessen the footprint of healthcare in B.C.
